 Independent Adoption Center Profiles Birthparents, Adoptive Parents, and Adopted Children: This Month, Meet Adoptive Parents, Tim and Lori of Indiana 15 March 2007 – Indiana. Each month, IAC – a nationally recognized nonprofit education and counseling agency – will present a profile of birthparents, adoptive parents, or children who have been adopted. A pioneer in open adoption, Independent Adoption Center (IAC) is nationally recognized as a leader in the field having facilitated almost 4,000 successful adoptions in 35 states. Headquartered in the Northern California town of Pleasant Hill, IAC has southern California offices in Los Angeles, and also operates centers in Indiana, North Carolina and Georgia. Profiled from the State of Indiana for the month of March are adoptive parents Tim and Lori . Married for nine years and unable to conceive, the couple searched the internet for adoption agencies and in 2005 found IAC. Lori said, “after meeting with the adoption counselors and discussing our situation, we knew that we could depend on their experience for a quick and smooth process.” Tim and Lori started the adoption process in June 2005 and by January 2006 they were matched with a birth family in Indiana expecting a baby girl. They officially adopted baby Olivia in April 2006. “We continue to have a close and loving relationship with Olivia’s birth family,” said Lori. “Our experience with open adoption has been very rewarding.” Kathy Wilkerson, Midwest Branch Director of IAC, said, “I’ve watched the process of open adoption for many years and seen what a positive force it is in all the families’ lives. Tim and Lori are a wonderful example of adoptive parents who spend considerable time with Olivia’s birthfamily.”
As a nonprofit organization, the IAC’s mission is to create open adoptions: that is, a completely voluntary adoption where birth parents select the family they want to adopt their child.
